Cambridge ESOL, in association with the London School
of Business and Finance and the University of Tasmania, is
organising an international English speaking competition for
young people in Asia.

between February and October 2011, and you could win:
- a chance to participate in a national English speaking contest

How to enter :
To participate in the competition you should register for either Cambridge English: Business Higher or Cambridge English: Business Vantage between February and October 2011.
The 10 candidates who get the highest marks in Cambridge English: Business Certificates in your region will automatically be invited to participate in a regional speaking contest. The winners of the regional competitions will be selected to participate in a national speaking competition.
The best student in the national English speaking contest will take part in the international final of the English speaking competition, to be held in SE Asia in early 2012. Contestants will come from Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and India.
The winners of the international competition will be awarded with a scholarship to study an MBA with the London School of Business and Finance or a Graduate Certificate in International Business with the University of Tasmania in Australia. Other attractive prizes will be available.

General Terms & Conditions :
- The competition is intended to give an opportunity for the best performing young candidates in Cambridge English exams in Asia to demonstrate their public speaking skills and compete to win some prizes.
- Only candidates taking the following exams during the period between February 2011 and November 2011 may have the opportunity to take part in the competition:
- Candidates in India and China must take BEC Vantage or BEC Higher
- Candidates in Vietnam must take FCE or FCE for Schools
- Candidates in Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand must take BULATS.
- Only candidates born after 1st January 1995 are eligible to participate in competition activities. Competition winners who are not at the age of having completed undergraduate studies may be ineligible to take up the competition international prizes.
- Candidates whose friends or relatives work for Cambridge ESOL, sponsoring organisations or are invited onto the panels of judges for the competition are not eligible to participate in the competition.
- Candidates should not use English as their mother tongue and should have completed most of their education in non-English medium. Cambridge ESOL can at its sole discretion exclude candidates from the competition who are judged to be first language users of English.
- Participation in the competition is by invitation only. It will be extended to the top performing candidates in the designated exams during the designated period. Participants take their exams and receive their results in the usual way. No further information will be given other than invitations to those candidates whose scores are high enough to qualify for the competition.
- Participants are not permitted to invite another person to take part in the competition on their behalf, nor can their invitations be exchanged for any other prizes. If participants cannot attend competition events on the dates published they will forego the opportunity to take part. Any case of using false identity or other attempt at misrepresentation will result in immediate exclusion from the competition.
- Cambridge ESOL is not obliged to provide any explanation or justifications for decisions relating to which candidates are selected for the competition.
- Cambridge ESOL reserves the right at any time and without prior notification to make changes to the competition arrangements, such as the location and timing of events and the provision of prizes.
- Cambridge ESOL is not responsible for the quality, warranty or service of any of the prizes which are awarded in the competition events, and will not provide compensation in the event that any of the prizes fail to satisfy the prize winners.
- In cases where prizes involve study courses or other education and training services, Cambridge ESOL has no responsibility for the welfare, support or guardianship of winners when they take up their prizes. Support for winners taking up study courses are provided by the sponsors in accordance with their standard services. All obligations incurred by Cambridge ESOL in organising the competition cease after the final international competition event in June2012.
- Cambridge ESOL is not liable to pay compensation for unexpected events or accidents which may occur in the course of running the competition.
- In cases where prize winners have to travel, Cambridge ESOL can provide letters to support visa applications. However, in the event of a visa refusal, Cambridge ESOL or the sponsors have no obligation to provide alternative prizes, and the winner would forfeit their prize.
- Cambridge ESOL reserves the right to publicise and promote the competition without seeking permission from the participants.
Prizes
- The prize for the winner of the competition is an MBA scholarship awarded by the London School of Business and Finance (LSBF). This scholarship only covers tuition fees; it does not include travel, living and insurance costs, which must be paid by the winning candidate. If the winning candidate wishes to delay matriculation they must negotiate directly with LSBF. LSBF reserves the right to refuse any such delays.
- The prize for the runner-up is a scholarship for the Graduate Certificate in International Business (course code C5G) offered by the University of Tasmania in Australia (UTAS). This scholarship only covers tuition fees; it does not include travel, living and insurance costs, which must be paid by the winning candidate. If the winning candidate wishes to delay matriculation they must negotiate directly with UTAS. UTAS reserves the right to refuse any such delays.
- The winner and runner-up must satisfy the matriculation requirements of LSBF and UTAS. If they fail to satisfy the requirements the sponsors have the right to refuse to award the prizes.
- The winner and runner-up are not permitted to give their prizes to another person. They will not be given other prizes or any compensation if they are unable to take up the prizes offered by LSBF and UTAS.
- In national level competition events other prizes may be awarded to participants. The terms and conditions stated here apply to any prize which is awarded locally. Other conditions may apply to local prizes. These additional conditions will be published on the Cambridge ESOL website for that country.
Competition Format
- The candidates who achieve the highest marks in the designated tests will be invited to participate in an English speaking contest. The number of candidates who receive invitations will depend on the country where they take the test and will be given in the competition promotional materials.
- The selected candidates will be invited to a venue where they might be asked to give a prepared speech, an improvised speech and take part in a business communication role play. Details of the format and content will be sent to participants with their invitations.
- Cambridge ESOL will subsidise reasonable travel and necessary accommodation for contestants to attend the competition at the arranged venue. Details will be provided in a contestant’s pack which will be sent with the invitations.
- The performance of each contestant will be assessed by a panel of judges. Only the names of the winning candidates will be announced. No further information will be given. Decisions made by the panel of judges are final and cannot be challenged by the participants.
- Appropriate travel, accommodation and travel insurance for attendance at the international competition will be provided. Further details will be given in a contestant’s pack which will be sent to the participants.
